Canadian Baseball Hall of Famer Tim Raines is probably best known for his 13 seasons with the Montreal Expos. Nicknamed “Rock” he is one of the best leadoff hitters and base runners in baseball history.
What you probably don’t know is Tim Raines has Lupus. After complaining of extreme fatigue and water retention in 1999, Raines stepped off the field and after a visits with his doctor he was diagnosed with Lupus which had started attacking his kidneys. The left fielder underwent radiation therapy and medication until his condition improved. He returned to the game in 2001, playing for the Montreal Expos, before retiring in 2002 with the Florida Marlins.
