If you’re an avid FB user, then you may have noticed all month long the Sorors of Sigma Upsilon Nu, SL Sorority have been showing their pride by posting why they ”Bleed Blue”. The month long campaign has allowed each soror to express individually what being a Soror of Sigma Upsilon Nu means to them.
Sigma Upsilon Nu SL Sorority was founded on April 9, 2010. Cleopatra Kellman, her real life sister Angel McMullen, Neylaan Kytori, and Monique Kessel make up the four founding members of S.u.N. Created to offer a place of sisterhood within the SL community, Sigma has grown to become one of the most elite Sororities on the Second Life grid, composed of distinguished women who aspire to instill high standards and integrity within the community.
Our mission: To generate UNITY among all women by fostering a strong sisterhood based on Individuality, Honesty, Loyalty, Respect, Responsibility, and Excellence. These are but just a few of the defining characteristics that makes up a Soror of Sigma Upsilon Nu. All Sorors share a sense of responsibility to their fellow sisters by not only enjoying SL together, but also dedicating and showing real life loyalty, time and respect to one another. There have been many trips to visit our fellow sisters. This is one of the qualities that make being a Soror of Sigma Upsilon Nu stand out.
Our charity for five years has been bringing awareness to those who suffer from Lupus. Each year in May, the Sorors of Sigma Upsilon Nu host month long events to help educate the virtual community on the effects of lupus. Why Lupus? Our beloved sister and Mentor Deeva Allen as well as some of our Sorors suffer from the effects of Lupus every day. Since our introduction of Lupus awareness on the grid of Second Life, many women in the SL community are more aware and educated on the effects of lupus due to their own personal struggle with Lupus. Education helps with early diagnosis, which is very important. What is Lupus? Lupus is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and tissue damage to the body.
Bleed Blue is a way for us to verbalizing whom we are, why we are Sigmas, why we pledge and continue to be True Blue every day. So during this month long event, and while you are surfing the waves of Facebook, take a moment to read why we ‘Bleed Blue’. You will know us from our Bleed Blue picture that we all have as our profile pictures.
This September starts our Rush Week. If you are interested in becoming a Soror of Sigma Upsilon Nu, contact one of our sisters for an interest packet. In the meantime, take a moment to send any of us an IM or message in SL or Facebook to ask any questions you may have regarding our Sorority or just to ask why we ‘bleed blue’ for Sigma Upsilon Nu.
