2013 Founders Weekend – Lupus Awareness Formal

Wearing the regal colors of purple and black, the Sorors of Sigma Upsilon Nu, SL Sorority and our esteemed guests were dressed in formal gowns and tuxedos as we danced the night away!  It was all for a worthy cause  (to raise funds to increase Lupus Awareness), while celebrating Sigma Upsilon Nu’s third year of successful activity in SL and RL.

Lupus Awareness Ball – 2013

To the delight of onlookers, and the surprise of our Founders: Soror Cleopatra Kellman, Soror Angel McMullen, Soror Monique Kessel and Soror Neylaan Kytori (absent – though present in our hearts); the Sorors of Sigma Upsilon Nu presented each of the Founders with a token of appreciation (Gift cards because we know how much they love shopping!) and a Certificate of Appreciation and Honor for all they have done and will continue to do to cultivate the growth of Sigma Upsilon Nu.

SuN Founders Award

Each personalized certificate reads: “With foresight and loving dedication, you lit a flame that has been graciously preserved by women of excellence, created a vehicle for service that others seek to emulate, and cultivated a bond that connects us all beyond time and space.  It is with deepest gratitude and love that we present this award to you on this our 3rd Founder’s Day Celebration”

It was a wonderful affair, and a successful fundraiser.  In total we raised  $L10,150 which will be donated in equal parts to the Lupus Foundation of America and Lupus UK.  Thank you to all of our supporters, donors and Sorors.

About Lupus:

Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). Chronic means that the signs and symptoms tend to last longer than six weeks and often for many years. In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria, and germs (“foreign invaders,” like the flu).  In someone with lupus, the body’s autoimmune system creates autoantibodies that attack and destroy HEALTHY tissue. These autoantibodies cause inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body.

No one knows what causes lupus. Scientists think that people are born with the genes to develop lupus and that something brings on or “triggers” the disease and symptoms. However, a combination of genetics (heredity), environment, and hormones is involved.

Lupus is a significant public health issue that requires national attention and action now. Lupus can range from mild to life-threatening and should always be treated by a doctor. With good medical care, most people with non-organ-threatening lupus can lead a full life. Having lupus can make the demands of everyday life challenging. When lupus is active, symptoms of joint stiffness, pain, extreme fatigue, confusion, or depression can make even simple tasks difficult, and sometimes impossible. And, because you may not have any visible signs of disease, the people around you may not realize how much discomfort and pain you are experiencing, or they may not know that you are sick at all.

2013 Founders Weekend ~ Award Ceremony

I Am Cleopatra

Acknowledgement is one of the privileges we as Lady Founders use to show our deepest appreciation for the work and time our sorors put into our Sorority.  It is not enough to wear the tag; each of us from the start understood that this organization is an active sorority with principles and a philosophy, which is centered on sisterhood, love and respect for all women – that is embedded in our standards and the makeup of our organization.

As we continue to grow our sorority, the one thing that is constant is our ability to serve in excellence and in unity in Secondlife and in our real life.  While all of our sorors are worthy of all accolades presented by the founders, our task is to pick one soror to receive the following:

The Baby Panther presented to the newest Soror that showed herself to be motivated from the initial…

When I was introduced to Secondlife I never fathom or even realized what could be accomplished in a virtual reality. The reasons that people step out of their reality and jump into a virtual mindset has as many explanations as there are individuals. Over the course of my four years as a resident of Secondlife I have met many people good, bad, and ugly however nothing can compare to the family and friends that have touched my real life.

Three years ago, on April 9th, Angel McMullen, Monique Kessell, Neylaan Kytori, Mentor Deeva Allen and I formed Sigma Upsilon Nu, SL Sorority. Our main goal was to have a sorority that was honest, respected the lives of their sister and embraced all women unconditionally; we did not understand what exactly that would mean in virtually reality. Nor did we realize how our ideas, our commitment to RL/SL community service, or…

ΣΥΝ’s Year in Review

2012 has been a busy year for Sigma Upsilon Nu, SL Sorority. Community Service and Sisterhood is our #1 Goal and each year we meet that challenge head on, because we love what we do.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors, and DJ’s, for all they have helped us achieve in the past year as well as the support from our family and friends.  The support grid wide has been wonderful and it is well received and appreciated all from the bottom of our hearts. Special thanks to the Sororities and Fraternities that have come to show their support in our endeavors.

As we go step into 2013 with the adage “Quality over Quantity” we are prepared to present 100% to another busy and fulfilling year.

But below is an overview of 2012. Enjoy!
